Musings From the Genny: Week of July 7, 2025

July 5th marks year thirteen of the Genny, and what a whirlwind it has been. So much has changed, with the exception of our finicky front door. We remember the days when we still had a payphone outside, and folks could swing in on a Friday night to rent their favorite DVD.  Owen, our beloved store dog, would beg from our customers dining at the checker table, and skiers came by to warm their cold hands over our wood stove. Our biggest pot in the kitchen could serve 8 people, and all of our casseroles were baked in a family size pyrex. Since day one, our kitchen manager, Crystal  Sanville, has been here to steady the ship.  We are so grateful for her anchoring presence and quiet leadership. We could not have grown into the store we are without her.

And, to our loyal customers and community, thank you! Because of you, we employ more than 30 people between our two stores. That is quite a difference from the 5 employees we started with. We like to think General Stores are an invaluable resource in Vermont, and we are honored to be one of yours.
