Musings From the Genny: Week of September 15th
MUSINGS FROM THE GENNY
Crisp mornings and warm sunny afternoons in the Kingdom make for perfect September days. While we are in great need of some rain these days, we here at the Genny are thinking about all the things we want to do outside to soak up these sublime Fall days. Hiking and biking are fan favorites over here. The traffic is lessening a bit from the busy summer days, so the backroads are feeling especially sweet right now, albeit a bit dusty. Buzzing by open pastures, watching a few early falling leaves, and sweeping by rolling green hills with just a hint of orange. All of that finished off with the warm afternoon sun beaming on your face. It is easy enough to find some good loops around here, but the West Glover, Albany, Craftsbury roads are noteworthy and have some great spots to land for a quick bite ( ie, Parker Pie, The Genny, Black Bird Bistro).
As for some hiking, a couple of us have checked out the new Craftsbury Trail, taking you from the Common down to the Village. 3 miles of winding trails that are tucked away from any cars. A real local gem for sure! Wheeler Mountain holds a spot in our hearts. As kids, many of us hiked this mountain on a class trip and remember scrambling across the rocks near the top. The trails have changed over the years, so there is some great variation to the terrain, and the view is pretty spectacular. Barr Hill is always a good time and perfect if towing some small fries, or just need a quick jaunt up a hill with a spectacular view. And, of course, we need a fire tower hike, and Bald Mtn in Westmore takes the cake for us here. So, get on out there if that kind of movement feels good for your body, and if not, we also strongly recommend a good ol' hammock hang accompanied by a good book.
